Sleep till rather late. Hit several places of interest during the day. Tuskegee Institute – Auburn College Ala. – West Point very nice little town. Buy casing and tube at Auburn. Get to LaGrange Ga. about 3:00 p.m. and McDonald spends about 2 hours with old army friend. Begins raining so we camp in old house at Louise Ga. about 60 miles west of Atlanta.
Approximate mileage 120 miles.
They continued on the Dixie Overland Highway until they reached Tuskegee.
Tuskegee institute was a normal school for African-Americans. It was later selected to train African-American pilots in the 1930s. Auburn College was known as The Alabama Polytechnic Institute at that time. It has allowed women to attend since 1892.

Thursday – November 16th
Clears up and turns cold during night. Get up about 3:30 a.m. and build fire to keep warm. Get to Atlanta about 9 o’clock and look over the place. Get haircut. Call up my cousin and take dinner with him. Leave Atlanta about 3 o’clock. See man on road that had just been in auto accident. Passed thru Athens about 5 o’clock and camp in old house just out of town. Plenty of wood and good warm room to sleep in.

After leaving Atlanta, they traveled on the Bankhead Highway.
